What is a cotbed?

A cotbed has removable sides and end panel so it can change into a short, low bed for a toddler. It is a larger than a cot, but smaller than a single bed and the cotbed needs specially sized mattresses bedding.

A cot will fit baby’s needs well for the first two or so years with its fixed sides, or maybe one side that drops down.

A cotbed is much the same but when baby becomes a toddler simply take the sides off the cot, and you have junior bed.

A cotbed will give you many more years of use compared to a cot but that does not mean they need to be much more expensive than the traditional cot.

So there you have two benefits of cotbeds immediately. Only one purchase in about five years which means less expense for you, and very little disturbance to your little ones’ sleep because they will sleep on the same mattress, which means more sleep for you!

Here at HelloBaby we stock lots of Kid’s mattresses, these mattresses from PurFlo are rather different, to begin they are completely washable, and offer great breathability.

Here is a rather more conventional view of the mattress notice the mesh surface which allow the are to circulate freely, the outer vallance in solid white is in AMICOR pure fabric – which is an intelligent fibre that dispels household dust mites (HDM), bacteria, fungi, it even repels the growth of MRSA, and is approved by Allergy UK. The mattess top and bottom surfaces are made from breathable polyester mesh and allows all gases and fluids to pass through easily. The in tention is that this combined protection gives your child the best opportunity to avoid allergens linked to Asthma and Eczema in their sleeping environment. The PurFlo cot and cotbed  Mattresses also prevents the pooling of exhaled carbon dioxide and hence makes it less likely that this will be inhaled.

I first wrote about Cariboo Nursery furniture from Zealand in July last year, it was very good and very well received but sold for, deservedly, premium prices.  However prices have fallen.

This blog has till now been blessedly free of the topic of foreign exchange cross rates but there is always a first time. One year ago the New Zealand dollar was at NZ$2.82 to the pound today it is at NZ$2.18. So a holiday there is likely to be cheaper, you might visit the wonderful woods.

This shows the Cariboo Classic Crib in a New Zealand forest, we are not actually recommending that you have your baby sleep in the forest, but it makes a nice photograph.
