Marleena from Finland on working for Hello Baby

Our Finnish Intern gives her view on working for Hello Baby!

Marleena

I am Marleena and I have been working for Hello Baby about four weeks now. I come from Finland so it’s been a bit of change for me coming to the UK. At first it was quite a shock because I came here alone and I of course had to use English all the time but people here seem very helpful. My boss Trevor even bought a bike for my use. It was very nicely done.

In the beginning I thought that I’m never going to learn how to use eSellerPro (software used in here) because it seemed like the most complex thing ever. Soon I had to start using it and realised that it wasn’t so complex after all. Of course I still need more practice and advice from Trevor but I’ll manage. One of my first tasks here was to rearrange the warehouse. It was a long project but I completed it with pride I think. After that I’ve been working with a lot of marketing stuff and new items and they have been quite interesting to me. In school I hated marketing but now it seems OK.

In the weekends I’ve been visiting London and the city of St Albans. Trevor and Tom (the other guy working in here) have been giving me some tasks to do during my UK visit. First I had to eat fish & chips which I enjoyed actually, well fish and chips, how bad can it be? of course. The next one was either teenage pregnancy or drinking beer (apparently these are common British experiences.).  I’m not so sure about these!

I was told to write something about the weather. It hasn’t been raining all the time like I thought it would so I like the weather even though it’s quite chilly now. But if I compare this to Finland it’s very warm! February is the coldest month of the year in Finland and it’s been about 25-30 degree cold and a few meters of snow. Still I’m feeling very cold in here sometimes. Like really cold, hands turning purple. I was asked why that is because surely I have to be gotten used to coldness. I will never get used to coldness, ever. But when it’s -25 celsius your whole body just becomes numb and you don’t feel a thing any more. And after going inside you have to take a hot shower and  cry because it burns so much when your skin starts to get warmer. But the summers in Finland are great. Trevor tells that they aren’t so great in the UK. Well I’m never going to find that out, ever.

I heard that there’s going to be a new girl arriving after me leaving.  I think she’ll be OK if she has sense of humour.
